Teikiant pavėluotą prašymą, teikėjas privalo paaiškinti ir pateikti dokumentus, įrodančius pavėluoto pateikimo priežastį. Gavus pavėluotą prašymą, JK Vidaus reikalų ministerija (angl. Home Office) įvertins ar teikėjas atitinka nors vieną kategoriją iš pavėluoto prašymo teikimo priežasčių sąrašo, ir nuspręs ar prašymas bus priimtas.
