The UK Home Office is transitioning from physical immigration documents to a new digital system known as the eVisa. This was also called Digital Status. This change affects both migrants living in the UK and new visa applicants.
What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is an online record that serves as proof of your immigration status, replacing physical documents such as:
- Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
- Biometric Residence Card (BRC)
- Passport stamps
- Vignette stickers
- Other legacy papers
Important: Obtaining an eVisa does not affect your immigration status; it only digitises the proof of your status.
Migrants with pre-settled or settled status, including third-country nationals with a Biometric Residence Card (BRC), already have an e-Visa -also called digital status- and a UKVI account that they can access them using this link.
You can find detailed information on setting up your eVisa here. To learn how to access and update your eVisa, read this blog post. You can also find out how to prove your right to work using your eVisa by following this link.
